Saturday---- Qualifying

After the last race in May (Beijing), the second race of Ford Formula Campus comes back to Zhuhai International Circuit this weekend.

There are fifteen drivers competing in the race this time and to four of them it is their first race in Ford Formula Campus this year and the competition was mainly focused on several young drivers. Pole sitter Juan Carlos Zhu did ran into some trouble after the qualifying was started and his car was towed back to pit lane for maintenance. Fortunately, his car was fixed before the qualifying ended and he managed to make the fastest lap after rejoining the race.

Xie Xin Zhe, another young promising driver, who finished the second indicated that he could have done a better lap. Xie Xin Zhe surely will put on a good fight with Juan Carlos Zhu tomorrow.

Diana Rosario, the female driver from Macau, was the third fastest. She indicated that there were too many slow cars on track and she was able to make a good lap after several laps.”I'm happy with the result.”

Ford Formula Campus will have two rounds (10 laps in each round) on Sunday. Let's count on a sharp competition from those young drivers.

Sunday----Race

As a result of Higos, Zhuhai has been pounded with heavy storm for the whole morning. The track was all wet and slippery, which added to the difficulty for Formula Campus drivers.

Race 1: Cao Hong Wei Won The Race

The first round of Ford Formula Campus started early in the morning. Many drivers indicated that they had a hard time getting a clear view on track for the splashes coming from the front cars.

Xie Xin Zhe, who was the 2nd in yesterday's qualifying, did a good job overtaking Juan Carlos Zhu and Cao Hong Wei. Unfortunately, he ran off the track when turning a corner. Cao Hong Wei did a remarkable job on wet track and established a clear lead very quickly & made the fastest lap of 2:04.638. Pole sitter Juan Carlos Zhu, on the other hand, didn't perform very well and stayed in the mid pack.

Cao Hong Wei from Baleno Team finished 1st while Diana Rosario from Team Liang Zhuang Pin Dao and Fan Gao Xiang from S&K Team captured 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Race 2: Cao Hong Wei Kept up The Good work

Race 2 (the fourth round) started at 12:30 p.m. and the weather was getting better. Cao Hong Wei started form pole position and stayed in the lead for a while with Diana Rosario, the female driver from Macau, following closely behind. Fan Gao Xiang and Li Jing Tao started pretty well also. Xie Xin Zhe, the young driver with much experience in karting, caught up gradually and overtook Diana in lap 5 & started approaching the race leader Cao Hong Wei.

The slightly flooded track was indeed the a potential threat to the drivers and several cars went out of control and off the track. Cao Hong Wei (Baleno Team), Xie Xin Zhe (Baleno Team) and Diana Rosario (Liang Zhuang Pin Dao) won 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

After this race, Cao Hong Wei is leading the points table and he did a impressive job in both championships (AFR and Ford Formula Campus). All the young campus drivers will certainly put on a nice performance.
