Kenneth Ma Competed in The 55 th Macau Grand Prix Macau GT Cup
For Immediate Distribution Nov 18, 2008
The invitational Windsor Arch Macau GT Cup made an impressive debut as one of the new support races this weekend and boasted a strong field of 35 sports car drivers who have been competing in the region and abroad . Macau GT Cup is held by Macau Grand Prix organizing committee and it is indeed a great collection of expensive GT cars assembled on grid with Ferrari, Lamborghini, Chevrolet, Porsche, Lotus and Aston Martin all represented. FRD President Kenneth Ma (car No.50 Galaxy FRD Racing Team) competed in the race with his red F360 Challenge.
FRD sent a group of senior mechanics and three F360 Challenge vehicles----car No.50 by Kenneth Ma, car No. 41 by Richard MEINS and car No.56 by Akihiro TSUZUKI.
Kenneth Ma did a good job by making his best lap in lap 8 (2:45.823) in qualifying and captured a start position of 18 th for the Sunday race. Considering Kenneth Ma's F360 Challenge is less powerful, the result is very convincing and Kenneth himself also indicated that he was on the upswing. Darryl O'Young (HK) won pole position, while Danny Watts (UK) and Keita Sawa were the 2 nd and 3 rd .
Sunday race (10 laps) started at 10:35 a.m. with rolling start and Mandarin Oriental Bend seemed extremely crowded with 35 speedy cars rushing into the corner. Darryl O'Young and his 997 GT3 Cup established a clear lead at early stage and Kenneth Ma made a good start too. The competition was fierce and Ross Bernard YAU (car No.78) hit barrier in lap 6 and retired from the race. Darryl O'Young continued his impressive form at Macau by securing pole position and champion in his Porsche 997 GT3 Cup while Danny Watts and Keita Sawa captured 2 nd and 3 rd . Kenneth Ma, who started from 18, finished 14. Richard MEINS (car No.41) finished 8th while the other F360 driver Akihiro TSUZUKI (car No.56) finished 20th.
Kenneth Ma indicated after the race that he was happy about the result; ˇ°My car is less powerful comparing to certain cars in the race today and I managed to fill the gap between my car and cars in front of me. The strategy worked well but when it comes to the straight, the ˇ®engine power competition' is back on. It's been a longtime since my last race in Macau Ghia and it felt great.ˇ±
