ET-CHINA Asian GT Masters: Extremely Luxuries
For Immediate Distribution Ma 23, 2009Formula Racing Development Ltd (FRD) and Zhuhai International Circuit (ZIC) is continuing the cooperative relationship and promoting the deluxe 2009¡°ET-CHINA¡±Asian GT Masters together with the season opener being held at Pan Delta Super Racing Festival on March 21 st & 22 nd . 09 season the championship is welcoming a new title sponsor¡ª¡°ET-CHINA¡± and bringing fancy GT cars like Ferrari 360, 430, Porsche 996, 997 and Chevrolet C6Z06 to race fans in Asia. ET-CHINA AGT Masters is featuring 13 drivers from 4 teams: IMSS Racing, RAM Racing, FRD Racing Team and SPS Racing with qualifying and race 1 on Saturday and race 2 on Sunday.
Qualifying:
The qualifying started at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.Four GT3 cars from IMSS Racing team and RAM Racing team were competing in GT3 Class and did an outstanding job by qualifying top 4.
Pole position went to car No.31 Oliver LEE B (IMSS Racing), Michael Lee from RAM Racing captured 2 nd and Frank Yu from IMSS Racing (car No. 30) qualified 3 rd .
Kenneth Ma from FRD Racing Team qualified first in Class A, while Ben Chow from RAM Racing qualified first in Class B. Matthew Ng, the CEO of ET-CHINA, was also competing in a Ferrari 360 to have a real taste of the exciting race. His best laptime was 1:56.406 which was good enough for a first try.
Race 1
The race started at 3:30 p.m. with 13 super cars lining up on the grid: 9 Ferraris, 3 Porsche and 1 Chevrolet were ready to wear themselves out to make some noise in ZIC.
The race was using rolling-start this time. After the warm up lap the race started. Pole sitter Oliver Lee B (car No.31) started very well and managed to lead the race into T1. Michael Lee and his black Chevrolet followed the race leader closely. Frank Yu (car No.30), who qualified 3 rd , spun a little while entering T1 and rejoined the race very quickly.
In lap 8, Frank Yu managed to overtake Kenneth Ma (car No. 13 Ferrari 360) when passing the last corner, then he overtook Andrew Luk (car No. 32 Ferrari 430) in lap 9 and made it to the podium.
Oliver Lee B from IMSS Racing won the race with a very clear lead of 24-sec. Michael Lee from RAM Racing and Frank Yu from IMSS Racing finished 2 nd and 3 rd respectively.
Race 2
The race started at 12:40 in the noon. The white Ferrari 430 driven by Oliver Lee B was again leading the race into the first turn. Eric Cheung was following closely behind in his Ferrari 360. Frank Yu was 3rd by then.
When the race entered third lap, Oliver Lee B managed to widen his lead to 7 sec. Started from lap 4, Eric exited last turn at a clearly higher speed comparing to Michael and managed to overtake Michael on the big straight. Car No. 23 Michael Lee fought back and won back his position.
In lap 7 Frank Yu (car # 30) geared up and approached Oliver Lee B (car # 31). There were only 1.5 laps left and the brutal fight between the two Ferraris made the crowed even more exciting. Frank Yu managed to overtake Oliver when entering the last corner. Oliver Lee B on the other hand wasn' t planning to give out first place that easily and he followed Frank very closely seeking opportunity to win the lead back. Frank Yu did a good job blocking Oliver ' s way and won the race by a head in the end. Oliver Lee B, who led the race for 8 laps settled 2nd and Michael Lee from RAM Racing finished 3rd.
Other minor things:
The ET-CHINA AGT Masters draw much attention from the media. Drivers took a group photo right after the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival opening ceremony and the scene looked very exciting. With fancy GT cars, experienced drivers, the female racer Naomi Zhang from Beijing, the ET-CHINA CEO Mathew Ng joining in the competition, the series started off very smoothly.
