ET.China Asian GT Masters: It's a big party For Immediate Distribution June 12, 2009
The ET.China Asian GT Masters came back to Pan Delta Super on 20 th & 21 st , June. The race had super GT cars such as Ferrari 360, F430 GT3, Porsche 996, 997 and the highly anticipated Ginetta G50 from the UK. It was the 2 nd race of the championship and the race featured one qualifying on Saturday, one race on Saturday and one race on Sunday.
Qualifying
As the weather changes a lot at this time of the year, all the drivers were trying to set the best lap as soon as possible.
The 20-minute qualifying was finished and the race committee announced the starting grid for round 1. Oliver Lee set the best laptime with his Ferrari 430 GT3 (1:42.129). Paul Poon qualified 2 nd . Rose Tan set a 1:43.204 & qualified 3rd and another F 430 driver Samson Fung qualified 4th. Morris Ku set the fastest lap in Class B and Ran Zhang, who only did 3 laps due to some mechanical problem, was 2nd in Class B.
 Race 1
The ET.China Asian GT Masters' round 1 started at 2:45pm on Saturday. Oliver Lee and Paul Poon started on 1st row with their F430 GT3 cars. Rose Tan was in a favorable place on 2nd row in her Porsche 997 Cup. The two Ferraris were leading the race with a clear gap, while the rest of the cars were rushing into first turn.
Paul Poon from PASA racing captured 1 st and he managed to lead the race from the early stage of the race. Pole sitter Oliver Lee (IMSS Racing) had some technical problem in the first few laps and finished 2nd. Rose Tan and her Porsche 997 finished 3rd and she was the winner in Class A. Rang Zhang, the Beijing girl in Ferrari 360, was the winner in Class B. Lap 5, Michael Lai's car No.7 went off the track and unfortunately he had to retire from the race. At turn 3--4, Nigel Farmer was entering the corner at a very high speed and he lost control of the car & headed into the sand area.
Race 2
The race began with a warm-up lap led by the official car Bufori. Car No.66 Paul Poon got off to a good start and managed to lead the race at beginning. Oliver Lee was following Poon very closely and waiting to take the lead from Poon. Car No.96 Samson Fung did a good start and overtook Rose Tan. He was 3rd by then.
Poon and Lee started a good fight. Lee overtook Poon in lap 3 after following him aggressively for a whole lap. Then Poon took back his lead from Lee by overtaking him at T1 in lap 6. In lap 7, Lee had a spin on the straight and went off the track. When he rejoined the race, he was 3 rd by then when Poon and Samson Fung in front of him.
After 10 laps, Paul Poon (PASA Racing) established his double wins and his teammate Samson Fung was 2nd. Oliver Lee, who led the race for several laps, settled for 3rd due to a spin on the track. Rose Tan was again the winner of Class A and Morris Ku (RAM Racing) was the winner of Class B. Ran Zhang, the other female driver, settled for 3rd of Class B due to some technical problem.
