Qualifying
The 2nd race of CTCC came to Shanghai Tianma Circuit (STC) on 27th June and the Changan Ford Racing team got off to a really good start: Martin Cao, the teenage driver who impressed the public with his remarkable performance, captured pole position. Rainey He, the lead driver of the team qualified 2nd. Andy Yan, the new driver who came to CTCC for the first time, qualified 5th and Tengyi Jiang was 10th. Billy Zeng qualified 3rd.
During the 2 sessions of official practice on Saturday morning, Martin Cao was again impressed the public with a two best laptimes in 2000cc class. The qualifying started in the afternoon and it was divided into 2 groups. Martin Cao and Tengyi Jiang were in group 1 while Rainey He and Andy Yan in the 2nd group. Cao set his best laptime on his 2nd try and that was also the pole position laptime of the class (1:09.479). Tengyi Jiang had some technical problem and settled for 8th of group 1. Rainey He and Andy Yan were leading the 2nd group from the very beginning and He set a laptime of 1:09.879 after driving back to the team for reinforcement. Race
The 2 nd race of CTCC started on Sunday and Changan Ford Racing Team was definitely a star of the weekend. After a very successful qualifying on Saturday, the team got off to a good start on Sunday and managed to lead the race for more than 30 laps. In the end, Andy Yan won the race. Lo Kai Fai (team 778) finished 2 nd and Rainey He captured 3 rd . Tengyi Jiang was the 5 th and Changan Ford Racing team was the team winner of 2000cc class.
The drivers performed even better than the scheduled strategy: Rainey He took the left side of the track and led the race; Pole-sitter Martin Cao had some contact with Billy Zeng's car, yet managed to follow his teammate and managed to stay 2 nd . Andy Yan started very well and went up to 3 rd . Thanks to this exceptionally good start, three cars of the Ford team led the race for more than 30 laps and Tengyi Jiang was moving up gradually.
The major change happened in the last 7 laps: Ford team Andy Yan overtook his teammates He and Cao and moved up to lead the race. Lo Kai Fai followed Cao and He very aggressively and overtook them eventually. Andy Yan, Lo Kai Fai and Rainey He won 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd respectively. The in-car temperature was over 60 ¡æ and the youngest driver Martin Cao's body had dehydrated with the heat and went off the track in the last lap. Tengyi Jiang did a good job by starting from 10 th and finishing 5 th . Andy Yan impressed everyone with his steady performance and he set another CTCC record by winning the race as a total new comer.
Paul Hui, the director of Changan Ford project said:"This week has been a very rewarding week for the team and I am happy for the team after all the hard work that we put in after the last race. First of all, I think FASC has shown very important leadership in organizing the work with us to fix the issues regarding the RPM counter. We are happy that the device seems to be working in good condition now and we will continue to cooperate with FASC if additional work is required.
Secondly, I want to thank the team mechanics, engineers and technical partners for putting in the hard work to make this good result a reality. The sacrifice that they put forward is second to none .
Furthermore, I want to thank our four drivers for showing the unselfishness and the team work needed to execute the team instructions. Everyone adhered to the strategy planned and executed them with pinpoint accuracy. I understand the team demanded a lot from them and I take full responsibility for the mismanagement of the heat issue and I apologize to our drivers with all sincerity .
Last but not least, I want to thank Changan Ford for providing the support to the team when we needed that at the critical moments .
We will start working immediately this week to prepare for the next race and have good confidence that we can deliver more good results down the road ."
