ET.CHINA AGT Masters: Exciting race in SIC

ET.CHINA AGT Masters came back to Shanghai International Circuit on July 25 th to join the China Circuit Championship racing weekend. The championship brought an interesting line-up to the grid with a fleet of Ferrari Super GT cars (F 430 GT3 & F360) and four Radical SR3 racing cars. Race fans from Shanghai were able to enjoy the exclusive fight between the 300+kph F430 GT3 and the UK-rooted Radical SR3.

Saturday

Qualifying started at 1:30 p.m. Paul Poon from PaSa Racing grabbed pole position by setting his best lap (1:56.625) in lap 7. Frank Yu from IMSS racing qualified 2 nd in a Ferrari 360 with a best lap of 1:57.657. Oliver Lee (IMSS Racing) qualified 3 rd . Kenneth Ma from FRD Racing team qualified 4 th and Byron Tong, also from FRD racing team, qualified 9 th in his first qualifying session ever. Radical driver Frank Yee qualified 6 th (2:00.701) and his teammate Alan Wong qualified 7 th .

Round 1 started at 6:00 p.m. and the race had three classes: Class GT3, class A & class SR3. The race had 1 formation lap and 11 laps. The real competition started after the formation lap and no overtaking during lap 1. Pole-sitter Paul Poon managed to lead the race from the very beginning and he finished the race with a 4.4 seconds' lead and he was the winner of GT3 class. Oliver Lee started from 2 nd row and followed his teammate Frank Yu very closely for 4 laps and overtook Yu in lap 5. Frank Yu indicated after the race that his tyres lost grip after lap 6 and he had to drive very carefully when passing corners. Lee and Yu managed to put up another good fight in the last lap with Yu regained his 2 nd place from Lee. In the end, Paul Poon, Oliver Lee and Kenneth Ma were the 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd in GT3 class. Frank Yu was the winner of class A and Frank Yee captured 1 st place in SR3 class.

Sunday race

Round 6's grid was based on the results of Saturday race, Paul Poon and Frank Yu started from the 1 st row, while Oliver Lee and Kenneth Ma were on the 2 nd . After the formation lap, Paul Poon's car experienced mechanical issues and he had to return to pit lane. Frank Yu led the race for the first four laps with Oliver Lee and Kenneth Ma following very closely behind. Yu's car had a spin when passing in T1 during lap 5, relinquishing the lead to his teammate Oliver Lee. In lap 9, Kenneth Ma overtook Lee at T6. Lee, on the other hand, followed Ma very aggressively for an entire lap and took back the lead on the straight. The only female driver, Ran Zhang, had a good start and managed to overtake two cars at the end of the front straight. When she finished lap 1 she overtook a Ferrari 360 and became leader of her own class at that point (class SR3). Unfortunately, she retired from the race in lap 5 when trying to brake deep into T1, spinning off the track. In the end, Oliver Lee won the race with 1.355 second lead and was winner of GT3 class. Kenneth Ma (FRD racing team) and Samson Fung (PaSa racing) finished 2 nd and 3 rd in the GT3 class, respectively. In class A, Andrew Luk took the winner's trophy while Byron Tong, who had his first ever race this weekend, was 2 nd . Frank Yee was again the winner of class SR3.

ET.CHINA AGT Masters will head back to Shanghai International Circuit (SIC) to join the exciting C1 celebrity racing weekend on August 22 nd & 23 rd .
