ET.CHINA AGT Masters Chengdu race: Bravo to Paul Poon

ET.CHINA AGT Masters traveled to CDIC and joined the Chengdu C1 race weekend with the featured celebrity charity race. Qualifying and Round 1 were held on Saturday and Round 2 on Sunday.

Saturday qualifying

Qualifying started at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Paul Poon (PaSa Racing) grabbed pole with a best lap of 1:46.076. For many of the AGT drivers, it was their first race at CDIC and the wet conditions just added to the difficulty of such a technical circuit. Oliver Lee set a 1:47.508 in lap 6 and conservatively headed back to pitlane early, while Poon's best lap was set in lap 9 under improved track conditions.

Round 1

As the red lights went out, Byron Tang, who started from P2, was overtaken by several F430 GT3s when entering T1. Pole sitter Poon got off to a good start and managed to lead the race from the very beginning. Lee was following Poon very closely the entire race, waiting for an opportunity to overtake, but failed to pass Poon in the end. Poon won the race, with Lee 2 nd and Samson Fung 3 rd . In Class A, Zhang Ran took 1 st on the podium while Byron Tang came in 2 nd .

Sunday Round 2

Pole-sitter Paul Poon didn't get off to a good start, and then spun while exiting the chicane leading onto the front straight. Samson Fung started from P5 and managed to move to 2nd after one lap, while following Oliver Lee very closely. After Poon rejoined the race, he set the quickest laptime in lap 10 (1:36.924) and overtook his teammate Fung. Afterwards, Lee spun and this moved Poon into the lead and Fung to 2nd, to take winner and 1st runner up, respectively. In class A, car No. 11 Zhang Ran, who started from P3, ran off the track and retired from the race. Kenneth Ma captured 1st in class A.
