AFR series Round 9&10 Report

2010 AFR series came to Zhuhai International Circuit for round 9&10 on Oct.28-29. We enjoyed a feast of top speed.

Qualifying¡ªfirst female driver grabbing the pole

The qualifying session started at 15:00 on time and Sandy Nicholas Stuvik from Asia Racing Team managed to stay on top of the board for many laps followed by Samin Gomez Briceno, the female driver from Top Speed Racing Team. Sunny Wong from Champ Motorsport and Chi Cong Li spun at T10 respectively in lap 3. Chi Cong Li had to quit the qualifying due to the car's damage.

Samin Gomez Briceno overtook the leading driver, Sandy Nicholas Stuvik with a time of 1:37.420 and continued to better her own time. She eventually set a time of 1:37.330 in lap 9 making her the first female driver grabbing the pole position in AFR history. Tin Sritrai also from Asia Racing Team ranked 3rd with a 0.716 difference.

Round 9¡ª good beginning is a good job half done.

Tin Sritrai, starting from third on the grid, made a good start and overtook the pole-sitter Samin Gomez Briceno and team mate Sandy Nicholas Stuvik. He kept on with his excellent pace and enhanced his time advantage over Samin Gomez Briceno to almost 1sec a lap. Samin Gomez Briceno dropped to 4th for a few laps and spun at T1. But she made her move by fighting back into the top three and soon moved to 2nd. Chi Cong Li and Suriya Bala Kerisnan Thevar were given 30 seconds penalty due to the jump start.

In the end, Tin Sritrai won the race with 1:38.089 followed by Samin Gomez Briceno with 1.742 difference. Sandy Nicholas Stuvik was 3rd and he is still leading the points board.

Round 10¡ª Sandy won the title

Tin Sritrai, starting on the first row, held the lead for 3 laps. Samin Gomez Briceno, with a less than perfect start, was overtaken by Sandy Nicholas Stuvik in the very beginning. Sandy Nicholas Stuvik snatched the lead in lap 4 with a fast lap of almost 1 sec margin faster than Tin Sritrai. David Lau was given 30 seconds penalty due to the jump start.

Samin Gomez Briceno made the best laptime of 1:38.120 in lap 9 and took turns with Tin Stitrai chasing Sandy Nicholas Stuvik. Eventually Tin Sritrai ranked 2nd and Samin Gomez Briceno got 3rd. Sandy Nicolas Stuvik took the first place and won the title ahead of time with 232 points. Samin Gomez Briceno also took the glory as the best female driver. Alexandra Asmasoebrata from Champ Motorsport and ART's Ran Zhang ranked 2 nd and 3 rd of the Female Class respectively.

We witnessed the first female pole-sitter in qualifying session, shared the happiness with Tin Sritrai for his first win of this season, moreover congratulated Sandy Nicholas Stuvik winning the title of 2010 AFR series. Nevertheless, we still expect all the drivers' impressive performance in the finale. Let's see in December.
