Clio Cup China Series Race 2 ¡ª Aaron Kwok Twice Victorious at Shanghai

Last weekend at the 2011 Shanghai Audi International Circuit Series, the Clio Cup China Series second race began.

Qualifying 1

Aaron Kwok took first place During the first qualifying run, times were down to the millisecond in difference, with Aaron Kwok finishing first with a time of 2:09.193, Steve Elmes with 2:09:365, and Kenneth Lau with 2:09:594.

Qualifying 2

The second qualifying run finished with Frank Yu taking first with a time of 2:08.507, followed by David Louie with 2:08.755 and Aaron Kwok with 2:08:810. The greatest number of off track stalls taking place at Turn 14 and 16 with their sharp hairpin turns, the drivers were tested and came through with improved times for the second qualifying run, improving over the first.

Race 1

Aaron Kwok started the race leaving Steve Elmes and David Louie behind with a long lead ensuring in a big fight for second place. Yu Kam Cheung crashed at T1, resulting in reduced speed while Aaron Kwok continued to take the lead, with Steve Elmes and David Louie bitterly fighting for 2nd. By the middle of the race Steve Elmes tried to pass Aaron Kwok but Aaron prevented him from passing, and eventually taking the race. David Louie finished in 3rd place.

 

Race 2

In race 2 of the Clio Cup, David Louie immediately burned past the 2 lead cars at the start of the race, taking the lead. Jacky Shi following in second place tried take the lead but in the 6th lap lost the advantage and dropped to 7th position. In the 8th lap Aaron Kwok had tried to take the lead from David Louie, when David lost control and turned into a 180 degree spin out, allowing Aaron to pass successfully and take first place. Kenneth Lau who also races in HTCC, drove an intense race taking 2nd place after starting from 7th position, passing 5 cars with seasoned driving experience. Finally, David Louie finished in 3rd place.

After the race, Jack Ko, the director for the Clio Cup China Series expresses:" It is such an exciting competition. The top six drivers fought for the top three positions. It seems all of them drove to the best of their abilities and enjoyed best times under one second. During the whole race, Aaron Kwok performed with a strong determined focus and in the end captured the first place prize successively. He enjoyed the best time twice, earning the double two points. "
