Renault Megane Trophy gained the first win in Asian

Date: 9-11, December 2011
Location: Zhuhai International Circuit (ZIC)

Last weekend at the Zhuhai International Circuit, the Renault Megane Trophy race car attended the 2011 Circuit Hero 500km Endurance Race. Not only the pole position belonged to Renault Megane Trophy, when the checkered flag was shown at the end of the three hour long competition, it also claimed the winner trophy in Class A.

Qualifying— Renault Megane Trophy gained pole position

During a sun-drenched afternoon qualifying session on 10th December, the Renault Megane Trophy dominated qualifying at Audi Zhuhai International Circuit for the 2011 Circuit Hero 500km Endurance Race. Kenneth Ma and Frank Yu set an unbeatable pole time of 1:44.682 during the 20 minute qualifying session.

The team worked hard at the Zhuhai track since last Tuesday to prepare for the race and to validate the most recent technical adjustments affecting, among others, the brake, transmission and suspension, anticipating some stiff competition from excellent drivers and vehicles that possess good power/weight ratios - such as the Atom, Ginetta, Ariel, and Caterham Super 7.

After taking the pole position, Frank Yu commented: “This was the first time for the Megane Trophy to attend an endurance race here in China and we do have a lot of adjustments to make for this race. We continued to improve our time lap after lap and when we realized we had the pole with a race set up, it was not necessary for us to continue pushing. “

Race-- First win for Renault Megane Trophy in Asia

After taking the pole position, Kenneth Ma and Frank Yu continued their success in the next day’s endurance race by making history when they took the first win for a Renault Megane Trophy in Asia.

The 2011 Circuit Hero 500km Endurance Race began at 2:00PM on 11th December. To no one’s surprise the Renault Megane Trophy, with its attractive shape, and as pole sitter, won the most attention when the cars took to the grid.

Sticking to the team strategy established for a three-hour race, both Kenneth Ma and Frank Yu tried to maintain a consistent and non-aggressive pace to stay in the front group. The plan worked perfectly until the car had to come in to fix a damaged rear diffuser, losing a few laps in the process.

After the repair, the Renault Megane Trophy made a remarkably recovery and gradually regained those few laps. With only two minutes to go in the race, it took back the lead and eventually won the race.

Kenneth Ma   Renault Megane Trophy driver

“I really enjoyed this race with the Renault Megane Trophy. It was an ideal package for us today; the engine, transmission, brakes and suspension worked together perfectly. I would like to thank the technical team and my partner, Frank Yu. This is truly a demonstration of group effort and one of the reasons why the Megane Trophy won the race.”
