With the aim of extraordinary racing at a reasonable cost, FRD introduced the FR 2.0 vehicles to China in year 2000 and started the AFR series. The Formula Renault series is recognized as the stepping stone for formula drivers around the world. F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton, Felipe Massa, Robert Kubica etc are some of the outstanding Formula Renault graduates; Bruno Senna and Kamui Kobayashi participated the AFR competition a few years ago. The series is promoted by FRD. FR2.0 uses strict specifications such as sealed engine, single make tires, 3 non-interchangeable gear sets, and controlled suspension settings. This tight control makes FR 2.0 straightforward to race both in terms of budget and technical set up.
Being an active series since 2000, the AFR series (AFR) finished its 10 th successful season in 2009. Other than the top circuits in China, the series has also previously traveled to other Asian countries such as Malaysia and Korea. AFR is no doubt one of the most mature single-seater series in China and greater Asia. The 2009 AFR took a further step towards its internationalization process by successfully gathering eight top teams in the region and featuring drivers from more than ten different countries and regions.
For the 2010 season, AFR will feature 7 races (14 rounds) and travel to major circuits in China. With FRD's sophisticated promotional approach and massive support from the teams, drivers and partners, AFR is sure to bring yet another brilliant season.
