Formula Racing Development Limited - FRD was established in 1997. One of the targets is to bring the thrill of auto racing to Asia at an affordable price. Being a highly successful racer himself, president of FRD, Kenneth Ma has turned FRD into the one of the leading organizers and promoters of Motorsports in Asia and China .

After starting with the French Formula Campus series, the company quickly expanded in the Chinese market by bringing in the successful Formula Renault 2.0 series and the Renault Spider series. FRD is currently the official promoter of the Formula Renault 2.0 in Asia and China .

FRD is currently based in Hong Kong, with operation facilities located at the Zhuhai International Circuit, China 's first F-1 standard race circuit, Shanghai International Circuit, and Goldenport International Circuit in Beijing . Supported by an international crew of over 80 technicians, instructors and managers from distant places like Europe, and the Americas , FRD beyond a doubt combines international racing expertise with Asian motorsports. FRD now occupies over 15,000 square feet in pit and garage area, sheltering over 100 cars in these locations.

FRD has strong ties with some prominent racing organizations in Europe providing a channel for its drivers to move up the ladder. FRD driver Jim Kato becoming a Red Bull Junior team member is 2005 is a good example of this connection. Other FRD trained drivers who had achieved good International exposure are Marchy Lee, Ma Ching Hua, Jia Tang I and Franky Chang.

Starting in 2006, FRD also ventured into circuit management by purchasing the operation right of the Beijing Goldenport International Circuit. This allows the company to have more flexibility in providing the flexibility in servicing its corporate clients.

The company also took another major step in 2006 by re-entering the non-single seater competition in China . After departing from the rally scene in 2003, signing the works team management agreement with Changan Ford represents a change of company strategy of more diversification of its racing operations. The Changan Ford Racing team, under the management of FRD, was the 2000cc Team Champion runner-up in 2006 and is the CHAMPION in 2007. FRD fulfils this Championship winning assignment allowing Ford to claim the double championships (CCC and WRC) in 2007.
