(Shanghai, China - September 3, 2005)Chen Xu from Team Wonderlife continued his domination of the China Formula Campus Series by taking both Pole Position and win for Round 3 held at the Shanghai International Circuit.His teammate Song Ge followed him for 2nd place.Closing up the podium was Hong Kong star Chin, Ka Lok driving for the Perfect Beauty team .
Qualifying took place Saturday afternoon in the dry.There was quite a bit of rain in the morning, but it dried up just enough for slick tires for the practice session.With the sun out and the intense heat, the racetrack dried up in no time.
Chen Xu took Pole Position again like the first race in Zhuhai.Chia On put in a great performance for East Shanghai team to take 2nd on the grid.Xu Jia followed up with 3rd and Song Ge 4th.Alexandra from team Indonesia Incorporated Racing took 5th and Frank Yee of team Sparco took 6th.
Even tough Team Wonderlife started 1st and 4th on the grid, by the end of the first lap, they were one and two.They held these positions till the end of the race with ease.Xu Jia from team Giant was in 3rd place for a while until Chin, Ka Lok took it over.The top three then remained the same till the end of the race.
Through out the whole race, there was plenty of action and passing behind the top three.Right on the 2nd lap, hundreds of people in the audience saw Benny Kok of the East Shanghai Team sniffing the exhaust from Frank Yee.It looked like he was in fact pushing Yee to go even faster.
At one time during the race, 4 different cars challenged each other braking into the hairpin.Luckily all the cars made it out, but one driver, Geoffrey Kwong lost his front wing in the battle.Kwong passed his teammate Yee on the start and then took it all the way to 5th place after starting back in 9th.
At the checkered flag it was Chen Xu and Song Ge for team Wonderlife taking one and two, and then Chin Ka Lok from team Perfect Beaut taking 3rd on the podium.Alexandra finished 4th and while team Sparco finished 5th and 6th with Kwong and Yee.
This being the first Formula Campus race at the Shanghai International Circuit, everything has been fantastic.The classic and legendary Formula Campus racecars at the state of the art Formula One racetrack, no other combination could be better.After practicing for days and days at a time in Zhuhai, all the drivers enjoyed the challenges of a brand new circuit.
Next race will be tomorrow, September 4, 2005.And do not forget, not only will there be a race for the Formula Campus and Formula Renault, but there will also be the Jackie Chan Charity Cup.This race is a must see for the audience as there will be 20 female Celebrities driving, and 20 Formula Renault drivers holding on to their dear lives in the passenger seat.If it is not a mixture for disaster, it will surely be one for excitement!This is all thanks to FRD Motorsports, the Asian Motorsports Pioneer.
