(Shanghai, China – August 23, 2006)Thirty different celebrities from around Asia will race this weekend in the Celebrity Charity Cup, which will be supporting Event 5 of the Asian Formula Renault Challenge.FRD Motorsports, the Asian Motorsports Pioneer, will be promoting both the Celebrity Charity Cup, and the AFR races this weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Out of the 30 different celebrities, 15 of them will be men, and 15 will be women.No, it will not be a battle of the sexes; instead they will race in teams of two, one man, one woman, and one professional AFR Driver to act as the team coach.If the last two years are any indication of what this year will be like, surely this is a race that cannot be missed.Although the race may only be a few laps long, rarely do even half the cars finish!!
For the AFR Challenge, the top 5 drivers are less than 30 points a drift of each other, anything could happen.In the lead now is ART Motorsports driver Alexander Imperatori with 137 points.Eight points behind him is Pekka Saarinen for the Shangsai FRD Team.Last month’s points leader, Takuya Nishitani, for Champ Motorsports is now in third 11 points down from the leader.Forth and Fifth currently goes to Imperatori’s teammates Henri Karjalainen and Jazeman Firhan Jaafar with 119 and 108 points respectively.
Get your tickets soon, as the race starts in only a few days, August 26.Both the AFR Challenge, and the Celebrities will practice and qualify on Saturday.The races will be on Sunday.In the past few years, hundreds of thousands of people have filled the grandstand to see all the celebrities gathered together in one place.If you want to get in on the action, get to the track soon or else you will be stuck in line waiting.
