As we know very well, the Asian Formula Renault Challenging series is entering it's 8th season in 2007. As the most mature, developed, and the highest level Formula Racing series in China , it has explored and cultivated a lot of talented formula drivers and provided excitement to Motor racing fans in China for a long time. Different from previous years arrangement, FRD, as the Asian official promoter of Formula Renault series, decided to put the race in the new China Formula Open (CFO) event. CFO, as the new FASC project with the intention to promote formula racing, will enjoy substantial benefit with AFR participating as the anchoring race.

Looking back at the Qualifying today, 2006 AFR Champion Finnish driver Pekka Saarinen; continuing his dominance and provided the best time for the two free practices this morning. In the afternoon, he took the pole position for Sunday's race. What worth mentioning is that, Pekka Saarinen is not only driving as a racer this year, he is also running his own team, the PSR team, as a subsidiary team of FRD. His teammates are Geoffrey KWONG and Colombian driver Alexis SABET, who ranked 6th and 17 th today. We hope the rich experience of Pekka Saarinen could bring technical guidance to his teammates, and the first pole position definitely brought the new fleet a good start for the new season.

Mathias Beche from ART team and Markus Samuli from March3 Racing qualified 2nd and 3rd position respectively. As a powerful team of the AFR series, ART is placing its Championship hope on Mathias Beche and Swiss driver Alexandre IMPERATORI, who performed impressively in AFR last year. The close 2006 competition between him and Pekka Saarinen will be another exciting scene for 2007.
