Sep. 2 of 2007, the fourth stop of the Asian Formula Renault Series was held in Shanghai. Eighteen excellent drivers from different part of the world participated in this race. In the morning first round, the front three positions were taken by Pekka Saarinen, Alexandre IMPERATORI and Felix ROSENQVIST. And the second round in the afternoon, Saarinen again took the win with undisputed advantage again. Alexandre IMPERATORI from ART and Maximiliano Baumgartner got the second and third respectively.

In the afternoon's 10 laps main race, Pekka Saarinen lined up at the front of the grid after taking the morning race convincingly. Pekka had a less than optimum start after the five red lights went off. He was overtaken by Alexandre into T1. They ex hanged position a couple more times before finishing lap 1 with Pekka leading the pack.

While the group in completing the first lap, car 72 of Team M3, driven by Jose Luis LOPEZ-PAMPLO spun and stopped at the hairpin after the long straight. Due to the dangerous position the car is sitting, race control officers made a very speedy decision to show the yellow flag and brought out the safety car. The safety car came out at a very good position and lead the pack immediately. The circuit marshals also did a very good job removing car 72 off the track quickly allowing the race to restart at lap 4. All drivers anticipated the restart and the process went off nicely with no problem. Pekka took the restart strongly and lead the pack into the T1 again.

The action following laps were relatively plain as Pekka and Alexendre started to pull away from the rest. But the fight for the third place was heating up with two M3 cars chasing their teammate, Maximiliano Baumgartner lap after lap. Maximiliano successfully held off the challenge and gained a very memorable podium finish.

Interviewed after the race, PSR team Pekka Saarinen said that he was satisfied with his performance today. And he specifically mentioned that he would like to thank his girlfriend's support and encouragement and dedicate this win to her.

The Asian Formula Renault series is getting very competitive and realizing the top 16 qualifying time are all within 1.5 second, it is natural for us to look forward to the next race which will be held on Sep. 22 -23 in Zhuhai.
