FFC started its 1 st and 2 nd round on May 11, 2008 in Beijing. It had been an intense competition since the very beginning.
To most of the young guys, formula racecars are still new and the rainy weather indeed added to the difficulties. It was a double challenge for them. The 1st round was slightly out of people's expectation. Fan Gao Xiang, who's been performing steadily, finished 5th. Juan Carlos Zhu captured 1st with a clear lead of 15 seconds. Martin Cao and Xie Xingzhe finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The 2nd round started in the afternoon. It was even more competitive than the 1st round. Martin Cao overtook Juan Carlos Zhu at the beginning. Juan Carlos Zhu struggled his way up and drove bumper-to-bumper with Martin for about 3 laps. Juan managed to recapture the 1st position, yet that didn't last long. His vehicle went out of control and hit the tyre barriers due to overspeed. Martin Cao, whose front wing was damaged during the intense competition, had to retire from the race as the damage affected his stability on straights .
Under the circumstances that Juan and Martin were no longer in this competition, Ka Lok Chin got the chance to command lead. Although Xie Xing Zhe kept putting pressure on him, yet Ka Lok is pretty experienced and he got everything under control. Thus, Ka Lok Chin, Pham Kim Thang Rich and Billie Liu were the top 3 of international division. Xie Xing Zhe, Chen Ming Hua Xia and Li Jing Tao won 1st ,2nd and 3rd respectively in domestic division.
FFC drivers put up a splendid race by putting the sweat into it. Although Xie Xing Zhe, Li Jing Tao, Chen Ming Hua Xia etc. are more familiar with karts, yet they did an impressive job driving formular vehicles. Juan Carlos Zhu and Martin Cao indeed were the eyecatchers. Being lack of experience certainly is a problem they are facing. Hope they will get more experience in the future.
The newly refitted FFC vehicle got much credit from drivers. Changan Ford and FRD have been working on improving the speed and the functions, apperently, it worked well. Changan Ford, on the other hand, said that they take FFC as an very important part of their racecar strategy on many occasions. We are looking forward to see these young drivers learn more from experiences and grow stronger.
