FR 3.5--New Challenge For Geoffrey

Asian Formula Renault, the official Formula Renault series in Asia jointly promoted by FRD and ZIC, is about to welcome its last race on Dec 13, 2008. Geoffrey Kwong, the current AFR points table leader, was invited to the Nov 5 FR 3.5 winter test in Paul Ricard HTTT by Renault Sport Technologies (RST). The World Series by Renault, on the other hand, has already started getting prepared for the 09 season and the winter test is known as a Renault tradition to ¡°hunt new blood¡± for the coming year.

Renault invited 13 best-placed drivers in the international FR championships to come to the test free of charge. The track was very wet when the morning session started at 9:30 a.m. and team KTR's drivers¡ªGeoffrey and Sten started the test at around 10:15 a.m. when the track started getting drier. FR3.5 vehicles have twice the engine power and definitely more grip comparing to FR2.0. It was indeed a new challenge for Geoffrey and he indicated that it was his first time on Paul Ricard HTTT ¡°It is the single greatest opportunity to experience FR 3.5 style high speed & test with those excellent promising drivers.¡± In the last 30 minutes the track dried completely, allowing drivers to take serious attempts at the top. Geoffrey did 36 laps and his lap time was getting better gradually with the best lap time happened in his last try. Geoffrey said after the morning session ¡°The weather is certainly not in our best interest and the session is too short, I would love to do more laps. It could have been better.¡±

Nov 7 Geoffrey will be attending an additional one-day test with RC Motorsport --an Italy based racing team which is also competing in F3 with Chinese renowned driver Congfu Cheng. RC Motorsport's team manager Cristiano told us that they are glad to have Geoffrey to test with them; ¡°We will prepare his driving position & seat today and have the test tomorrow morning.¡±

The Nov 5 th 's morning session was indeed a good warm-up for Geoffrey. Let's count on a good performance from him.
