The AFR Championship started its season opener in ZIC at 12:30 in the noon in Pan Delta Super Racing Festival. The AFR Championship is known as one of Asia's top single seater racing series. The AFR Championship has always been one of the best platforms for aspiring drivers in Asia. 15 drivers from all over the world came to Zhuhai to compete for the honor.

We had many familiar Chinese drivers such as Jiang Teng-Yi, He Xiao-Le, Zhang Zhi-Qiang on the entry list. Aaron Kwok, the celebrity driver from Hong Kong was also on the grid. It was his first race after the last Formula Campus Championship race in Chengdu in 2008. We all know that Aaron is a racing enthusiast and he owns 5 Ferraris GT cars. Aaron is racing for FRD Racing Team this time.

As the vehicles stopped on the grid, the technicians started their final touch to the car set-up. The track was a little wet due to the sloppy weather, temperature was low and warming up tires was very important.

As the red lights went off, Zhang Zhi-Qiang did a good start and led the race for a few laps. The cars passed the first turn smoothly except that Aaron Kwok spun and went off the track. Fortunately he rejoined the race in time but was down to third from last.

Two cars from team M3 kept leading the race with a 3-second lead. In lap 2, Alon Day managed to overtake and took over the lead from his teammate Zhang Zhiqiang. Jiang Tengyi from FRD Racing Team was 3 rd by then. In lap 5, Jiang Tengyi, Geoffrey Kwong and Michael CHOI started a good fight. Aaron Kwok on the other hand was sandwiched between two cars and struggled to maintain his position.

The race entered the final stage, on lap 8, Alon Day was 1 st by 3-second lead and Zhang Zhiqiang was second with Jiang Teng-Yi following behind. Team M3 had their top two finishes locked up. The main focus turned to Aaron and Luca Ferigutti: Luca tried to overtake Aaron while passing T14 and almost made it; Aaron fought back and caught up on the big straight and managed to maintain his 9 th after the first turn. Aaron settled 3 rd in IFC class.

The race ends with Alon Day as the winner, Zhang Zhi-Qiang second and Jiang Teng-Yi third.
