In the wake of a very successful weekend in Shanghai Tian Ma Shan (”°TMS”±) Circuit, the Changan Ford Racing team was very confident coming into this past weekend's 3 rd race of the 2009 CTCC Championship, at Shanghai International Circuit (SIC). Qualifying started on Saturday afternoon, with Lo Kai Fai and Lo Ka Chun qualifying 1 st and 2 nd , respectively. Rainey He qualified 3 rd , with Martin Cao & Andy Yan on the 3 rd row of the starting grid for Sunday's race. Tengyi Jiang qualified 9 th . The grid looked promising for Changan Ford racing team.
Lo Kai Fai and Lo Ka Chun set their best laps right after qualifying started. Rainey He, the lead driver of Changan Ford Racing team, set a 1:15.502 soon after he got on the track. Martin Cao set 1:15.604 in lap 7. Andy Yan did a good job on his last try and moved up to 5 th by setting 1:16.002.
Rainey He indicated after qualifying that the team divided its four cars into two groups during the qualifying session so the drivers would be able to do a clear lap. ”°The first few laps were going very well and I set a good lap. I headed back to pit lane after the first set of tires started to lose grip. When I rejoined the qualifying with a new set of tires, I made several small mistakes and couldn't set a better lap.”±The team tested the addition of a rear wing on two cars during practice in hopes of gaining better cornering speed on the tight circuit configuration. Rainey He indicated that the team might make rear wings standard for the cars in the upcoming races.
Ford project director Paul Hui indicated that he was very happy with the current situation. ”°Some healthy competition in the team is encouraged and I have confidence in Yokohama tires.”±
