Asian Formula Renault qualifying: Day grabbed pole and SA SILVA 2 nd

With the cold air coming south to Zhuhai recently, the temperature for today's qualifying at 3:00 p.m. was about 18 degrees. Drivers needed more laps to warm up their tires. In the end, Alon Day grabbed pole position with Luis SA SILVA 2 nd and Luca Ferigutti 3 rd .

During the first few laps the drivers were being more conservative as laptimes were around 1:41. In those first laps Alon Day set a 1:39.2 but Day and other AFR drivers' laptimes improved after that. SA SILVA set a 1:38.6 in lap 3 and moved to 1 st , but soon after that Alon Day did a 1:38.2 to take back the lead. Day managed to better his laptimes in the next five laps and successfully wowed us by setting the pole lap in lap 8 (1:36.8). Luis SA SILVA and Luca Ferigutti started a good teammate fight on the laptime results table. Ferigutti set a 1:37.7 in lap 9 to move to 2 nd , while SA SILVA fought back and set a 1:37.6 on his last lap. Thus, SA SILVA grabbed the other front row position for Sunday's first race. Zhang Shanqi (PTRS team) and Zhang Zhiqiang (March 3 racing team) did a good job by setting 1:38.1 (4 th ) and 1:38.3 (5 th ), respectively.

The two strong contenders for the championship title, Alon Day and Luis SA SILVA, will start from the first row on Sunday's first AFR event and race fans can certainly expect an exciting race. FRD will update you on Sunday.
