Clio Cup China: Fun driving experience, the choice of Aaron Kwok

Based on a long pleasant working relationship with Renault Sport Technologies (RST) and Renault France, Formula Racing Development Ltd introduced Clio, its best-seller in the European market, to China Motorsport in early 2009 and announced the Clio Cup China Series at the same time.

FRD, the official promoter of Clio Cup China, successfully controlled the 2009 year round cost at 500,000 HKD (including the cost of the race car and entry fees for the 3 points races in China). The series attracted more than 20 race enthusiasts to join the competition. Participants enjoyed the debut race at Le Mans Bugatti track in France, followed by the Invitational race at N¨¹rburgring Nordschleife, Germany, after which the fleet traveled back to China and held two points races in Shanghai and Chengdu. The drivers all indicated that the car is fun to drive and that they all had a great time. The Clio Cup race car weights only a little more than 1000kg, and features a sequential no-lift shift mounted on the steering column and a sensitive braking system, which make the Clio race car very unique compared to cars in other one-make races. The car is perfect for beginners yet provides enough space for experienced drivers to explore the limit at the same time.

This season Mr. Aaron Kwok, the newly appointed UNICEF ambassador in HK, participated in the series and donated all the money from his sponsors to the foundation, which helped the series gain even more attention from the public. Kwok is now leading the points table with a clear gap, and indicated that the Clio is a very interesting car which he likes the feeling of racing on a professionally designed track.

The success of the Clio Cup China series signifies another step of cooperation between Renault and FRD. FRD is now announcing with pleasure that Renault China and FRD will collaborate for the first time on the upcoming China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition on November 24th-30th. In order to better promote the championships, FRD will join Renault's booth with one Clio race car (Clio Cup China) and Formula Renault 2.0 (Asian Formula Renault). Both parties are looking forward to more possibilities for future cooperation. The Clio Cup China series will hold its season finale at Zhuhai International Circuit in December. The Clio Cup China drivers will be sure to bring another brilliant show to Zhuhai race fans!
