Under the unpredictable August weather in Chengdu. The China Touring Championship 2000cc race started on time. The sun was shining instead of the heavy raining just an hour ago. Due to the sunshine, most part of the track was drying up quickly. The result was very satisfying for the Changan Ford team as Martin Cao grabbed the first place trophy again. Tengyi Jiang finished third and Billy Tsang from Hua Yang racing team took second.
Facing this ever changing weather in Chengdu, Changan Ford racing technical team decided to put Tengyi Jiang and Andy Yan on natural setting and Martin Cao and Rainy He were put on dry set up. It was also decided that all four cars will start the race with slick tires.
After the two warm up laps, the KIA cars had to come inside the pit area to change back to slick tires after making a bad decision to equip the cars with rain tires to start the race. They had to start the race from the pit land and in reality putting them out of the competition for the top spots.
As the race went off, Martin Cao started well and managed to keep the lead fighting with Billy Tsang who qualified 2nd behind him. Billy Tsang and Michael Ho from Hua Yang racing team launched all-out attack instantly, threatening the other three Changan Ford cars. During this difficult fight in the leading group, Michael Ho collided with his teammate Bill Zhang allowing the three Changan Ford cars to move to the front group.
Towards the end of the raee, Billy Tsang brought the fight to Martin Cao. Since Martin is carrying so much more weight and it was very obvious his top speed towards the end of the straight was lower, Billy Tsang tried for four laps trying to overtake Martin at the end of the straight. Martin held the inside line firmly and managed to defend his position into T1. With two laps to go, Billy Tsang took a wise decision by loosening up the fight and opted for taking the second place. Tengyi finished third with a very smooth race, Andy suffered tire problems and Rainey suffered high water temperature towards the end of the race forcing them to lose a couple positions in the race. Martin Cao won again after the R3 wet race in Chengdu and this win confirmed his lead in the driver points table. The three teammates Tengyi Jiang, Andy Yan as well as Rainy He finished 3rd, 5th, and 8th respectively.
In the press conference, Martin Cao said ¡°The temperature of slick tries is too low and affects the car's grip at the start of the race. Although I can maintain the lead till the end, but it was a hard battle to defend the position in final few laps. Thanks to our technical team and my teammates because my win is the result of excellent team work.
2010 CTCC Round 5 will travel to Erods International Circuit for the second half of the season. It is a brand circuit so all teams will have to do a lot of homework before traveling to this venue. |
