The second race for the 2011 AFR Series joined as part of the CTCC weekend, started today.
Qualifying - Yuki Shiraishi of PS Racing took the pole
The qualifying started at 9:10am. In order to gain the best grid position for race 1, all the drivers competed for the top of the time sheet at the beginning. Yuki Shiraishi of PS Racing performed well during the whole session and enjoyed the fastest time. He took first place in the time sheet. Meanwhile, the other drivers also performed well. Especially, during the fierce competition for the 2nd and 3rd?positions. There were 7 competitors who enjoyed times within the small gap of one second, forming a group to fight for the top three positions. Finally, Leopold Ringbom and Juan Arenas performed the best, and took home the 2nd and 3rd positions.

Race 1- Yuki Shiraishi won both International & Asian Categories
Race 1 of this weekend started at 5:20 in the afternoon. During the first lap, there were several accidents and four drivers had to retire from the competition. In T1, Alan Lee spun out and retired from the race. While in the T9, there was a crash between Juan Arenas and Leopold Ringbom. Juan slipped outside the track and retired from the race. Also, Leopold recovered and was able to continue the competition. Yuki Shiraishi made full use of his pole position and?never relinguish the lead for the whole race. Li Chi Cong stayed?in the 2nd?place until the 7th lap, but was overtaken by Kei Yamaura. However, Kei Yamaura was penalized by his jump start and dropped to the 8th position. Francis TJIA performed well during the whole race, but unfortunately he could not keep his position and was overtaken by Alexandra Asmasoebrata toward the end of the race.
At the end, Yuki Shiraishi took the first prize, followed by Li Chi Cong and Alexandra Asmasoebrata.

After the competition, Yuki Shiraishi expressed:" It is a great honor for me to gain the title both in International and Asian Class. And I am so happy that I am the fastest guy both in the qualifying and race 1. According to the plan, I will change to?new tires for 2nd round competition and hope?to achieve better result."The second race should be fiercer on May 29. Let¡¯s look forward to the exciting event. |
