Heavy Rain in Chengdu could not stop the Changan Ford Focus

A bone drenching downpour started just fifteen minutes before the start of the race made every team scrambled to change into rain tires. The Changan Ford team , fully aware of the unpredictable weather pattern of Chengdu, already had a plan drawn up and reacted with ease using very little time to change all four cars into rain tires and made the necessary adjustment to the set up. With safety concerns due to the condition of the track from the heavy rain, the cars were led around the track by the safety car in single profile for the first three laps.

At the end of the race, Rainey He and Andy Yan came home first and third and gained another team champion trophy for Changan Ford.

Once the Safety Car left the track, the fight was on with the onset of the 4th lap. Jiang Tengyi, who qualified first, shot off and was the first through the first corner with Rainey He following just as quickly by overtaking a Trubo Polo of Wang Rui, into the 2nd position. Rainey realized at once that Tengyi had good speed leading the race, so he settled into the 2nd position to manage the pace of the other drivers. A sure sign of an excellent professional team and how they work together!.

Fan Gaoxiang, the youngest driver of Changan Ford Racing Team, underestimated the braking distance in the wet, made contact with another car, lost control and finished his race in the gravel immediately after the start of the race.

Andy Yan, driving car number 3, had difficulties throughout the week trying to find the right set up as a result of the heavy weight penalty applied after winning the Zhuhai race three weeks ago and could only managed to qualify 12th position. Weighted down or not, it barely held him back this day as he rocketed to 7th place in lap 4 and was gaining consistently on the two excellent drivers in front of him; Han Han (Turbo Polo) and Jim Kato (KIA). By lap 11, Andy overtook both and settled into fifth position. He eventually overtook another Turbo Polo and won himself a podium finish after a very unfortunately event happened to his teammate.

Originally holding his lead position without any challenges or difficulties for 12 laps and holding a very comfortable lead from his teammate, Rainey He, fate decided to pay a visit to Tengyi. Suffering a punctured tire in lap 13, Tengyi was forced to quit the race. Rainey quickly took over the first position held by his teammate to keep the team at the head of the race.

After the race, Rainey He expressed: ¡°In such an unpredictable race, I am very excited that I am the winner. It was amazing that the team could achieve the task of converting the set up of the cars from dry to wet in such a short time. I really do not know how they did it. I felt really bad for my teammates who couldn¡¯t finish the race, especially for Tengyi, who lost the race due to a blown tire.¡±

John Ling, Team Manager, Changan Ford Racing Team ¡°Very good result for the team but I will be communicating with the technical people of the tire supplier on finding out the reason of the blown tire of Tengyi. I am sure, with the assistance of their engineers, we could satisfy our corrective action and preventive action procedures. This exercise, will also be beneficial for the tire supplier to further improve their products or procedures.¡±

The fourth round of the CTCC Championship will move to Ordos International Circuit in InnerMongolia. See you in three weeks.
