AFR Series Round 7 began at 10:20am with cloudy skies and a temperature of 27 degrees. A very light rain started just before the race, growing to a constant drizzle just minutes before the pit lane opened, with teams rushing to change to rain setups and rain tires when a wet race was declared. Due to the adverse conditions, the race featured a single file rolling start. After the safety car entered the pits and the cars came down the straight for the green flag, FRD racing team's Martin Cao and PS Racing's Leopold Ringbom pulled away from Champ Motorsport's Yuki Shiraishi and Kazuhiro Saeki who had dropped behind on the start.

The slower start cost Yuki and Kazuhiro – though Yuki initially closed the gap on Martin and Ringbom in the opening laps, he was not able to catch up to Martin and Ringbom. As the race continued with Martin leading to what was expected to be another win, Diana Rosario went off the track in turn one midway through the race but was later able to continue. Meanwhile, Leo Ye had engine issues but continued on and managed to finish the race. However, with the drizzle slowly letting up, with just three laps to go Leopold Ringbom managed to pass Martin Cao, and after the pass slowly extended the lead to take the win and fastest lap of the race, with Martin placing 2nd and Yuki 3rd.

Prior to this morning's race, Champ Motorsport's Yuki Shiraishi was leading the international Class with 114 points, Alexandra Asmasoebrata in 2nd with 110 and Leopold Ringbom with 107. With Ringbom's Race One win today and Yuki's 3rd, Ringbom is now leading the points battle with 137 points to Yuki in 2nd with 134. Ringbom has now retaken the points lead by a slim margin from Yuki. Race two will continue the close battle for the 2011 AFR Series with this afternoon's race at 2:50pm.
