Aaron Kwok ¨C won both Clio Cup China Races in Shanghai

 

Clio Cup China Series Round 5 and Round 6 were held at Shanghai International Circuit on August 21st. Fourteen cars took part in the race. Sean He, Aaron Kwok, Jay Shi, Yu Kam Cheong, Steve Elmes and Eric Lo fought fiercely during the qualifying sessions and Sean He eventually won both pole positions. It was worth mentioning that for the Q2 qualifying time, there was only one second covering the top eight cars.

Clio Cup China Series Round 5 began at 14:00 pm. At the first lap, Aaron Kwok already passed Sean He. At the second lap, Sean He regained the leading position. However, Aaron Kwok overtaken Sean He again at the lap 3 and continued the leading position till the end of the race with best time 2:10:247 at the lap 5. Steve Elmes started at the 9th position, but already climbed up to the 5th place at the first lap. Eric Lo and Kenneth Lau were in front of Steve Elmes for the first 5 laps. But later there was a crash between them, so Steve took the perfect opportunity to pass both Eric and Kenneth to go to the 3rd place. Sean He ranked second and Steve Elmes ranked third. Shaun Thong started at the 11th position, and went up steadily to the 4th position.

Round 6 began at the later of the day. After the start, Aaron Kwok again overtook Sean He at the first lap. Sean He tried hard to take back the lead but Aaron defended his position well and and started to widen the gap between them in order to consolidate his leading position. In the 3rd lap, Eric Lo and Yu Kam Cheong went into the last hairpin together and touched and both of them retired from the race. Race control sent out the safety car allowing the crew to remove the two damaged cars.

The race restarted at the 7th lap. Even the gap was reduced between Sean He and Aaron but Aaron didn't give Sean too much chance to and set the fastest time in lap 9 with 2:09:389 and eventually won the race. Sean He and Steve Elmes got second and third place respectively.

The Round 5 and Round 6 of Clio Cup China Series have been completed successfully today. After his double wins this weekend, Aaron regained the lead of the driver champion with 136 points which is only one point ahead of Steve Elmes. Oliver Lee is also within striking distance with 124 points. The next race will be held again in Shanghai October 23.
