The final rounds of the 2011 AFR Series will be held at Audi Zhuhai International Circuit (ZIC) Dec 9th-11th. As a one-make championship, driver skills and teamwork will be of the utmost importance for achieving good results this weekend. Strategy also will be important: for instance the decision how to use the allowed two sets of tires in the 30 minute qualifying and two rounds becomes a trick question. Unlike the Shanghai Audi International Circuit (SIC), there are more turns and less straights at ZIC - drivers will need to focus their skills on controlling tire wear. Also, due to the circuit scheduling, the teams cannot commence practice until Friday - a challenge for both the teams and drivers.

Leader Leopold Ringbom from PS Racing stands within touching distance of the title. He has been in unstoppable form since shooting to the top of the standings, pulling out a 45-point lead over closest competitor Yuki Shiraishi from Champ Motorsport. However Leopold must watch his mirrors carefully, as Yuki definitely will use his knowledge and experience to try and turn things around.
Female driver Alexandra Asmasoebrata has already secured a position on the final podium in the International Category after 10 rounds. At the same time, she still has a great chance to claim the 2011 crown in the Asian Category, facing her only competitor, Shiraishi, who is now on top with 204 points. Three drivers can still fight for the 2nd runner-up spot: female driver Diana Rosario from FRD Racing Team, Kazuhiro Saeki from Champ Motorsport, and Timothy Teo from Asia Racing Team. A new driver from Japan will attend the final race as a member of Champ Motorsport, hoping to gain more experience for the 2012 season.

For the team title, PS Racing has already taken home the trophy in the International Category, but meanwhile the team champion in the Asian Category remains unpredictable. After being absent 4 rounds due to a conflicting race schedule, Asia Racing Team will return for this weekend’s final round. Though the team is already out of the running for the team title, gaining experience for next season will be their main purpose.
The 2011 AFR Series final race weekend gets underway this Friday with two official sessions, whilst qualifying and Race 1 will take place on Saturday, and Race 2 on Sunday.
