According to the second qualifying yesterday afternoon, Eric Lo was the pole sitter for today’s race two, with Frank Yu alongside. Shaun Thong and Steve Elmes shared the second row on the grid. Runner-up title contender Oliver Lee started 6th.
Because Frank took home the winner trophy in yesterday’s race to gain 32 points, and started in second position on today’s grid, the results enlarged the chance for him to win the final runner-up trophy for the 2011 championship. Based on the series points regulation, the final points are decided by the best 8 rounds - thus Oliver was only ahead of Frank by 12 points after 9 rounds.

The second race of the weekend started at 1:15pm today with cool 16-degree weather and sunny skies. Eric Lo got a brilliant start off the line, and during the 10-lap race extended his gap to the second place driver lap after lap, in order to secure the final round win. In the process he set the fastest time in today’s race to again win the 2 points bonus. Other notable race action came from Frank Yu and Shaun Thong, as they interchanged second position during the race, with experienced driver Frank finally winning the battle.

Oliver Lee showed that he was still a force to be reckoned with in the final runner-up battle, even though he retired from the race yesterday. Because he was starting in 6th position on grid, he had to move up two positions to secure the final runner-up title. At the beginning of the race, he overtook Kenneth Ma and moved himself to 5th. However, Bryon Tong passed him in lap 5. One lap later, Oliver overtook Byron Tong in T4 with a wild open chance, with the three drivers in a close fight interchanging positions until the end of the race. But by the checkered flag, Oliver worked his way through the pack to finish an impressive fifth.

“I have never been so happy to finish fifth in my life,” said Oliver, who became the championship final runner-up after today’s race. “That has got to be my best race of the season so far, and in today’s race I was under huge pressure because I had to retire from yesterday’s race. It felt so good to win the final runner-up title. I will come back next year, because all the drivers are like family to me.“

The three drivers who stood on the final podium for today’s race were Eric Lo as the winner, Frank Yu first runner-up and Shaun Thong second runner-up. At the same time Steve Elmes, the 2011 driver Champion, shared the joy with Oliver Lee and Frank Yu.
